Hardhik Pandya is Mumbai Indians new captain in place of Rohit Sharma.Hardhik will lead the five time champion team MI in the IPL 2024.He was traded from Gujarat Titans with a cash deal. According to report in the Indian Express, MI also paid a transfer fee for the all rounder.
There is no specific figure available but it is being estimated that Gujarat Titans got INR 100 Crore as a transfer fee but the exact numbers are only known to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Pandya was with Gujarat Titans for previous two years and lead the team.Gujrat Titans successfully became champion on it’s first season. In the previous season Gujarat Titans went to the final but lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
After spending two successful season with Gujarat Titans, he returned to his previous franchisees Mumbai Indians. Mumbai was his first IPL franchisees and he won four titles with them.Pandya was not retained for IPL 2022 and was signed by Gujarat Titans.
Meanwhile his return hasn’t gone well with some Mumbai Players. Jashprit Bumra and Sury Kumar Yadav have registered their displeasure through social media. These two senior pros were overlooked for captaincy despite staying with them for years.
